The Culpo family welcomed their second baby, Olivia France, into the world on May 8, 1992, in Rhode Island. When Olivia was in second grade, she studied cello and eventually played with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and many other musical groups.
When Olivia got older, she decided that she wanted to audition for pageants. Then, in 2012, she auditioned for Miss Rhode Island USA for the first time, and, unsurprisingly, Olivia won. Culpo then represented the state for the Miss USA competition on June 3, 2012. Culpo won the title, and she became the representative of the USA for the Miss Universe.
Culpo’s homecoming to Rhode Island was extravagant. She had a motorcade in the main streets of Cranston, and many people piled along the streets. Mayor Fung also handed the key to the city to Culpo, just outside the Cranston City Hall.
After Culpo’s homecoming, her journey to the Miss Universe crown started. She and the other representatives appeared in photoshoots and even made appearances at significant events. The main competition aired on December 19, 2012, in Las Vegas.
Olivia won the Miss Universe, making her the first Miss Universe from Rhode Island. She succeeded Miss Angola, Leila Lopes.
During her reign as Miss Universe, Olivia visited several countries, including Indonesia. While in the country, she crowned the winner of Puteri Indonesia. She also attended the United Nations Population Fund and discussed HIV.
Aside from being Miss Universe, Olivia also walked the runway for Sherri Hill at the Trump Tower in September 2013. She also toured India for ten days to raise awareness about women’s issues. Then, she passed the crown to the next Miss Universe, Gabriela Isler, in November 2013.
While still Miss Universe, Olivia was on the headlines of India for allegedly disrespecting the Taj Mahal. She and her photography team went to the mausoleum for a footwear photoshoot with the Taj Mahal in the background. The Archeological Survey of India wanted to file a lawsuit against the agency of Olivia. It is because of the prohibition of any publicity inside the premises of the mausoleum.
Upon the engagement with India, the Miss Universe Organization apologized for disrespecting the Taj Mahal’s rule.
Aside from being a pageant titleholder, Olivia is also a social media personality. She updated her social media platforms from time to time and gained a significant number of followers.
