She won a gold medal on her first world championship under the juvenile division at 14. By the time she turned 16, she had made it at the adult division. By 2009, Mackenzie is a four-time world champion.
That year, she made her first step at the European championships under the blue belt category. However, Mackenzie dropped from the competition due to collarbone injury.
Mackenzie returned to the European championships and won gold the following year. She maintained her winning streak under the weight division and absolute divisions.
Before her 20th birthday, Mackenzie advanced to black-belt rank. She is one of the youngest black belt Jiu-jitsu fighters.
Her first competition as a black belt was against Luiza Monteiro in 2013. Mackenzie won the fight and moved on to the European Open under the weight division. Her victory granted her as one of the top featherweight black belts in the world.
In 2018, Mackenzie decided to join the Ultimate Fighting Competition. Since debut, she was able to earn successive wins.
So far, Dern holds the record for the highest number of consecutive wins made by a female at the World Championship. She is also the ADCC World Champion and former number one IBJJF fighter.
Mackenzie is now married to Wesley Santos, a professional surfer. Their first daughter was named Moa. Amid her pregnancy, the new hot mama returned to training.
In October 2019, shortly four months after giving birth, Dern lost at the UFC. Mackenzie, however, did not regret it.
