You may have known her as the queen of “America’s Next Top Model”, but Tyra Banks is more than just a queen; she is a goddess. Her name got even more prominent in the modeling industry after she became the face of CoverGirl Cosmetics in 1993 and was one of the few Black models to be on the Supermodel status.
Banks was also the first of many, as she was the first African-American to cover for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and G.Q. Her success even got greater when she received the award, “Supermodel of the Year” by VH1, and became the first African-American model to cover for Victoria’s Secret catalog in 1997.
However, Tyra decided to retire from the modeling world in 2005.
She came back in 2019 to pose for the 2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.
After her retirement, Banks ventured into another world. She dived into the T.V. series and appeared in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She even got to co-host in The Price is Right. Tyra then created Ty Ty Baby Productions, which later became Bankable Productions, and produced the talk show, The Tyra Banks Show, and famous America’s Next Top Model. Her talk show won the Daytime Emmy Award, and in 2009, won again for Outstanding and Informative Talk Show.
Like her success couldn’t get any better, Tyra created her cosmetic line, ventured into writing and published her book, Modelland, and became a personal branding guest lecturer at Stanford University in 2016. She also established the organization, TZONE, a program focused on leadership and skills development.
