Before she became Frigga from Thor, Rene Russo was a fashion model. Rene did many sexy poses for several high-profile magazines like Vogue and Cosmopolitan. In the 70s, Rene even posed nude for Fernando Scavullo. Her photos involved side-reveals of her boobs and ass, making Rene one of the hottest fashion models in her time. Nino and Shirley Russo welcomed Rene Marie Russo on February 17, 1954, in their hometown in Burbank, California. Rene’s father left the family when she was only two years old, leaving Rene and her sister to the care of her mom. Russo also got scoliosis in her younger years and had to wear back braces her entire grade school years. Rene also got teased a lot by her classmates because she was taller than average. She revealed in an interview that the bullying made drop out of school.
Rene’s family did not have enough money when she was still in high school. She and her mother worked two jobs to get by. Rene’s sexy and tall physique eventually got discovered by an agent, and she moved to New York to pursue the work. She then signed with Ford Modeling Agency in the 1970s and became one of the top models until the early 80s.
Because of Rene’s figure, she was a regular in Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Mademoiselle. After her modeling fame began to fade, Rene tried to attend acting classes. She then appeared in small theatre plays in Los Angeles. Russo’s first acting gig was in 1987 in the mystery-crime-drama series, Sable. Although it was her last TV appearance and she then had movie opportunities after.
In 1989, Rene got her first film feature in the movie, Major League. She played the character, Lynn Wells. Her lead role continued in 1990 when she starred in the fantasy-comedy film, Mr. Destiny. Rene’s talent continued to get noticed as the years went by. She did movies every year since she started. She starred in One Good Cop in 1990, Free Jack in 1992, and Lethal Weapon 3.
Rene’s successes in movies were grand. She starred in many of her films from 1995 to 2005.
However, because of her health issues, Rene needed to take some time off until she returned as Frigga in the box-office Marvel movie, Thor in 2011. She then reprised her role in 2013 in Thor: The Dark World. She got reunited with the star, Robert De Niro, in the movie The Intern in 2015 and reprised her role as Frigga once more in Avengers: End Game.
In March 1992, Rene got married to Dan Gilroy, and the two have a daughter together.
