In 1932, she appeared in the horror film, Doctor X. Her famous films had been produced under RKO Radio Pictures and her first film with RKO was The Most Dangerous Game that was released in 1932. The following year, she was cast as Ann Darrow in the film, King Kong for which she got very famous. In 1942, she left the film industry but made her return later and from 1953-1954, she appeared in the television sitcom, The Pride of the Family as Catherine Morrison. In 1959, she played the role of Tula Marsh in the series, Playhouse 90. She also played the role of Mrs. Brubaker in The Eleventh Hour in 1963. She ended her acting career by appearing in the made-for-television film, Gideon’s Trumpet in 1980. Her autobiography, On the Other Hand, has been published in 1988.

She had married three times and she had a daughter with her first husband, John Monk Saunders, and the other two children with her second husband, Robert Riskin.

On 8^th August 2004, she died in her sleep of natural causes.
