Born on August 9, 1985, Hong Jin-Young is a South Korean trot singer and entertainer. Hong debuted in small movie and television roles in 2006 when she played a small role in the film Who Slept With Her?, and also a role in Yeon Gaesomun, a Korean history drama based in the seventh century.
Hong’s music career started in 2007 in the form of SWAN, a Korean girl group featuring Han Ji-na, Hong Jin-young, Heo Yoon-mi and Kim Yeon-ji. Their debut song was “Call Me When You Hear This Song” and it featured Coolapika.
Her agency CCM’s CEO suggested her to turn a solo trot singer in 2009. She was reluctant to begin with due to her young age as trot is considered to be an “older” music genre in Korea. Still, she went ahead and released her first digital single “Love Battery.” She again released a new digital single on August 6, 2010, “My Love.” It was followed by her next digital single “Boogie Man” on March 22, 2013. Hong is renowned for her numerous appearances on famous music variety shows such as Immortal Songs 2 and King of Mask Singer. In November, 2014, she appeared on the panel of a popular variety show and also featured in a virtual marriage with Namkoong Min on We Got Married. Her first EP, Life Note came out in the same year and her virtual husband Namkoong Min appeared as her lover in the music video for the title song “Cheer Up.” Her second EP, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life came out in 2016. In February 2017, Hong released a digital single, “Loves Me, Loves Me Not.” In the same year, Hong was cast as a regular member of Sister’s Slam Dunk. Hong teamed up with comedian Kim Young-chul to release the EDM and trot single “Ring Ring” on April 20, 2017, and they won the Best Trot award for it at the 2017 MelOn Music Awards.
In 2018, Hong came out with a retro trot style digital single “Good Bye.” In December 2018, Hong released a new trot single about people and experiences in Seoul City, called “Seoul” in collaboration with rapper Bray, and she also produced it with Park Keun-tae.
